International Journal of Morphology Molina,Víctor; Manterola,Carlos. Existe evidencia de asociación de alteraciones de la matriz colágena en sujetos con hernia inguinal (HI). El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la existencia de alteraciones en la expresión de MMP2 y TIMP2 en sujetos con HI primaria. Estudio de casos y controles, realizado en los Servicios de Cirugía y de Urgencias del Hospital Regional de Temuco entre 2009-2010. Se incluyeron pacientes con HI primaria mayores de 15 años, sin restricción de género (casos), e Individuos sin hernias, mayores de 15 años, intervenidos por apendicitis aguda (controles). ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to characterize the tissue reactions triggered by the polypropylene mesh coated with chitosan and polyethylene glycol film, and if it’s able to prevent the formation of peritoneal adhesions. Defects in the abdominal wall of rats were induced and polypropylene meshes coated with chitosan/polyethylene glycol (CPEG group, n= 12) and uncoated (PP control group, n= 12) were implanted. On the fourth and forty-fifth postoperative day the formation of adhesion and the tissue reaction to the biomaterial was evaluated through histological and histochemical analysis. The aim of current study is to provide sufficient date of the inferior epigastric artery for clinician, radiologists, surgeons, orthopaedic surgeon, obstetricians and gynaecologists. The current study includes 171 dissected cadavers (92 male and 79 female) to investigate the origin and branch of the inferior epigastric artery in United Kingdom population (Caucasian) as well as in male and female.
